Neighbourhood Response Manager

Neighbourhood Response Managers co-ordinate arrangements to deal with environmental problems in the neighbourhood, for example, removing graffiti or making sure that repairs are carried out, and dealing with vandalism.

Your local Physical Activity Co-ordinator is Debbie Smith. Debbie works to increase levels of physical activity and exercise in your local community. She can provide information on local activities and exercise groups such as walking and cycling, and various other initiatives which you can become involved in. She can also help you with exercise programmes if you are recovering from heart illness (in cardiac rehabilitation). Your local Community Health Trainers are Safia Ahmed, Elaine Glendenning and Jaynie Forster. They can help you to have a healthier life; working with individuals and groups on health issues including physical activity, stopping smoking, reducing stress and anxiety, and making new friends. They can help and support you to make lifestyle changes, and have local knowledge and experience so that they can put you in touch with services in your community.

The Elders Council of Newcastle is a charity that provides a voice for older people on issues concerning their quality of life, health and well-being. They want society to realise the potential of older people as a creative and active resource for the community.

They are run by older people for older people. They work through eight working groups: Transport; Housing; Community Safety; Learning and Culture; Older Person Friendly City; Health and Social Care (which runs the drama group Old Spice); Readers (which broadcasts a monthly radio programme); and Outreach.

If you are aged over 50 years old and living or active in Newcastle, you can join the Elders Council. Membership is free and is for life. You could also join one of their working groups. WECDC offer a range of services and activities for community groups and organisations in the west end. These include: opportunities to network and link with other local groups and organisations; training courses and workshops; small grants; advice and help on funding and organisational matters; and support and advice on running activities and developing projects.

They can also offer routes for agencies to consult local people about projects and plans that will have an impact on the area.
