Charles Street Community Association’s activities are mainly aimed at older and disabled users. Activities include bingo and other social events. The centre also provides Christmas lunches, and organises occasional trips and fairs.
The centre has a large room which is available for private hire.

The Chillingham Road Sports and Arts Centre has several sports groups that meet regularly and are open to the public. These include yoga, keep fit, kendo, women's keep-fit, capoeira and other martial arts. They also have a sports hall, art studio and community room that are available for hire.

The East End Pool is much more than just a pool. It is a combination of a swimming pool, a studio pool, a sauna, a Lifestyles Suite and it also provides fun facilities. You can take part in various activities, including public swimming sessions, adult only swimming, pilates, boxercise, and Over 50's sessions. You can enjoy a hot or cold snack in the Street Cafe or step into the East End Library without even leaving the building.
The East End Pool currently offers several different activities which are specifically for people aged over 50:
- The East End 50+ Group meets at the East End Pool Dance Studio on Monday and Friday mornings at 11am for a gentle exercise session. This costs £2, which includes a free swim afterwards.
- 50+ aquafit sessions and swimming lessons are on Mondays at 12pm.
- 50+ swim/saunas are on Mondays at 2.45pm and Tuesdays at 12pm.
- A 50+ chair-based exercise class takes place on Wednesdays at 12pm.

Heaton Community Centre has a wide range of activities on offer, including: tai chi, lunch clubs, social clubs, bingo, bridge, capoeira, and a Thursday Club for over 50s (1.30 to 4pm). They also have an Internet cafe, which is currently open on weekdays from 9.30am to 2.30pm and on Saturdays from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Martha & Mary's Community Drop-in is run by volunteers from local churches. You can drop in for a cup of tea or coffee and a light snack and there are books, cards and fair trade goods on sale.
There is also free Internet access and a room for small groups to meet in.

The Metropolitan Community Church holds 'Tea with Dorothy', a monthly social for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people aged over 50 years old and their friends at Martha & Mary's. East End Customer Service Centre

East End Customer Service Centre is a 'one stop shop' where you can get a broad range of services and information from the Council and other public services. For instance, you can make Council Tax enquiries, pay your rent, and get Social Services help all under one roof. The Centre opens from Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
