Newcastle Shopmobility

Shopmobility is a service that provides battery-powered scooters and wheelchairs for people with mobility difficulties. Becoming a member of the Shopmobility scheme can give you greater choice, freedom and independence to travel around the city centre to shop or to use the range of attractions that are available in Newcastle.

Standard or battery-powered wheelchairs and scooters can be booked in advance by calling Newcastle Shopmobility. When using the service, you can also pre-book a parking space on Level 4 of Eldon Garden multi-storey car park. Staff can then bring the wheelchair or scooter to your car.

A sighted guiding service is also provided and volunteers can be made available to help you with your shopping. If you borrow a battery-powered wheelchair or scooter you will be shown how to use it by trained staff. All of the scooters are fuelled on environmentally friendly electricity, and there are left-hand drive models available.

To become a member of Newcastle Shopmobility, contact them using the details given below. They will send you a membership form, which you must complete and return with the annual membership fee of £12.50. Once you have joined, you will get the free use of all of their equipment as often as you like for a year.

To find out more, contact Newcastle Shopmobility using the details given below, or visit the Newcastle City Council website.
