Emergency dentists

NHS dental care should always be available if you are in discomfort, whether you have a regular dentist or not. Urgent and out of hours care will include the treatment necessary to relieve your pain.

If you have a dental emergency, you should contact your own dentist in the first instance. If they are closed, a voicemail message should advise you on how to access appropriate dental care.

If you are experiencing severe pain outside of normal working hours, contact the out of hours service on telephone number 0845 608 0324. This service is available on Mondays to Fridays from 6.30pm to 11pm and on weekends from 9am to 10pm.

If you aren't registered with a dentist, you can contact the Emergency Dental Access Service on telephone number 0191 219 5209 on Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 5pm.

Newcastle Primary Care Trust is responsible for urgent and out of hours dental care in Newcastle. If you experience any problems in accessing treatment, you can find out about services in your area by contacting them using the details given below, or by calling NHS Direct on telephone number 0845 46 47.

If your condition is not serious, your local out of hours or Emergency Dental Access Service may advise you to take pain relief and to book an appointment during normal clinic hours.
