Upcoming Events and Celebrations

1st October is the international day of older people. We are celebrating in Newcastle with a number of free events and activities across the City.

InformationNOW will be at St Martin’s Centre, Brunswick Methodist Church, the Grainger Market and All Saints Church to share information and to live stream highlights on our Facebook Page. Please follow our page for further updates. We hope to see you there.

Info East Event at St Martin’s Centre

Come along to the Info East Event this September at St Martin’s Centre

A fun interactive day for adults 50+ and their families. There will be lots of information stalls, taster sessions and activities. All welcome!

Organised by Age UK Gateshead

Come along to celebrate Older People’s Day with us and have a go at

  • The Big Knit with Age UK Gateshead
  • Gardening with Scotswood Natural Community Garden
  • Explore “bygone times” with Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums
  • Get advice on keeping fit and healthy from the Community Physiotherapist Team
  • Sightseeing walk of Newcastle with Active Newcastle starts at 10.15am from Brunswick Methodist Church walking to Grainger Market taking in several sites of interest/plaques.
  • InformationNOW Newcastle come to meet us and find out how to get the most out of Newcastle’s older people’s information website.
  • The Grainger Market’s Artist in Residence will also join us to illustrate key parts of the day.

Segedunum Roman Fort and Museum are offering free entry for people over 55 years on Saturday 6th October from 10 am to 3pm.  Mention Age Friendly Museums for your free entry.

Dance City classes for older people

Dance City are offering a taster day of their older people’s dance classes.
The taster session is sold out but they have a regular programme of classes for over 55 years olds ranging from

  • Pilates,
  • Yoga
  • Tap dancing
  • Ballet
  • and much more

Harvest Festival

Silver Sunday are coordinating a series of events across the UK and in care homes in Newcastle from 5th to 7th October.HC-One Care Homes are welcoming members of the local community including groups, clubs and associations to spend a little time in their care homes to gain a greater understanding of their work.

As part of  celebrations they’ll be offering tours of their homes, and giving the opportunity to meet some of their Residents to find out more about their amazing lives.

During your visit you can enjoy

  • Harvest themed activities
  • Refreshments
  • Meet new friends from the community
  • Distribution of our harvest collection to elderly neighbours
  • Supporting Silver Sunday – aiming to combat loneliness, celebrate the contribution of older people and help to increase happiness and wellbeing
