Arts Therapies UK
Arts Therapists work alongside clients experiencing trauma or stress related to short term illness or long term conditions, people with anxiety and low mood as well as those who are lonely, have experienced neglect or have communication or learning difficulties. Clients can self-refer or organisations can organise a referral or book a programme of sessions.
Arts therapies are a form of psychotherapy that use the creative arts: dance movement, drama, music, art – as the main form of expression and communication working with their clients. As qualified Arts Psychotherapists they offer therapeutic intervention for the whole community without regard to race, religion or background. These are not like a creative arts class and people are not expected to bring skills or gain skills, but they will be able to express their emotional feelings and so experience reduced levels of emotional distress.
Clients include: Stroke Association, Benton Park Primary School, Newcastle, Tyne and Wear Archive Museums, Young Women’s Outreach Project.
