Newcastle Cathedral

Newcastle Cathedral, the only cathedral in the UK dedicated to St Nicholas, is the Anglican Cathedral for the Diocese of Newcastle and a welcoming beacon of faith at the heart of the city. Open daily, it invites people of all backgrounds to worship, reflect, and connect with the local community.

The Cathedral hosts a vibrant programme of services, cultural events, and heritage activities, celebrating both tradition and creativity. Café 16, run by Northumberland charity the Oswin Project, and the Cathedral’s retail space showcase local producers and artists. Friendly volunteers are often on hand to offer information or a warm conversation.

In addition to more than 20 weekly services – many of which showcase the remarkable voices of the Cathedral Choir – the building also welcomes a variety of groups, including:

As the ‘Mother Church’ for the Diocese of Newcastle and the seat of the Bishop of Newcastle, the Cathedral plays a central role in diocesan life.
