Older Person’s Behaviour Support Service – Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW)

The Behaviour Support Service works with care homes to support them with challenging behaviour. The Behaviour Support Service works closely with people (including families and staff) to understand and address the needs of the patient.

During the assessment, they collect information about the patient from a variety of sources such as:

  • the patient themselves
  • friends and family
  • the care home
  • GP
  • psychiatric notes

The service works with carers to develop strategies to meet the identified needs with the aim of reducing the behaviours that challenge and/or the distress that it can cause to others.
