Tax Help for Older People provides a free, confidential and professional tax advice service to those over 60 (or retired) with an annual income of less than £20,000 p.a.
Their team of well-trained staff provide telephone advice from their Dorset base, but about one in five of those who approach them need to talk to someone face-to-face. To provide this face-to-face service to thousands of clients each year they rely on our UK wide network of over 400 volunteer tax advisers. Drawn from within the tax and accounting professions, or retired HMRC staff, where possible these face-to-face advice sessions take place during a tax “surgery” in a local venue, often a CAB branch or Age UK/Concern. If a client is disabled, mobility impaired or has transport difficulties then we arrange for the interview to take place in their own home.
They deal with a huge range of personal tax problems, including PAYE coding issues; how to claim a refund; completing self-assessments; and many other forms, not to mention all the recent changes in taxation such as pension flexibility; marriage allowance; personal savings allowance; and dividend allowance. Additionally how to deal with an underpayment and guidance through retirement or bereavement.
They also provide tax awareness training to pensioner groups and other 3rd Sector advice services.
