The Derwent Initiative
TDI (The Derwent Initiative) is a national charity based in Newcastle and operating across the whole of the Great Britain, Northern Ireland, and internationally. Their focus is to find innovative and joined-up solutions to the problems of sexual offending and sexual harm. They enable non-experts to manage risk in their own day-to-day and working lives.
The work they do includes:
- Running the Leisurewatch public-protection scheme which operates in over 150 public spaces across the UK.
- Providing resources to promote the awareness and understanding of sexual offending and sexual harm.
- Offering a range of training packages for individuals and organisations, with a focus on empowering those who work with, or might come into contact with, sex offenders to help them identify and manage the risks of concerning sexual behaviour.
- Conducting research and public engagement around issues of sexual offending and sexual offending risk.
- Offering consultancy services for those drawing up policies or plans to reduce the risk of sexual offending in their organisation or at their site.
- Working with organisations across the private and public sectors to develop and deliver programmes of work around sexual offending on their behalf.
- Engaging with decision makers and influencers with the issues raised by sex offending.
- Working with legislative and regulatory bodies both at home and overseas to share best practice and develop policy.
