The Land of Oak and Iron

The Land of Oak & Iron is a nature and heritage park covering a 177 square mile area surrounding the Derwent Valley including Consett, Rowlands Gill, Prudhoe and Whickham; located off the A694 at Winlaton Mill, Gateshead.

The Land of Oak and Iron has:

  • The Land of Oak & Iron Heritage Centre with information about the industrial iron, steel and coal history of the area as well as natural history of the woodlands and wildlife.
  • The Land of Oak & Iron café using locally sourced ingredients with vegan options
  • walking trails
  • coast to coast cycleway

Most walking and cycling trails are flat and accessible to all. Accessible car park
