Great North Museum: Hancock

The Great North Museum: Hancock is a free museum. It has collections from the Hancock Museum and Newcastle University’s Museum of Antiquities and Shefton collection. Highlights of the museum include: a large-scale, interactive model of Hadrian’s Wall, major displays showing the wonder and diversity of the animal and plant kingdoms, spectacular objects from the Ancient Greeks and mummies from Ancient Egypt, a planetarium, children’s play area and a life-size T. rex dinosaur skeleton cast.

The Hancock Library is on the 2nd floor of the museum. It is an open, working library for visitors to the Museum, members of the public, researchers, students, and volunteers. You don’t need a membership to visit. They have collections on the history and heritage of the Northern Region, Roman Britain and Hadrian’s Wall, as well as archaeology and natural history.

Admission to the Great North Museum is free. Donations are welcome. It is a designated Safe Place for people with learning disabilities.
