Newcastle City Learning – Learning Difficulties and Disabilities provision

Newcastle City Learning offer a range of courses for adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities from Pre-entry to Level 2 focusing on work and employability skills.

Current subjects include

Art

A practical arts-based course where you will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of art forms such as painting, sculpting, printmaking and mosaics as well as accessing the community and finding out what is going on locally.

Cookery

The course encourages independence in the kitchen as well as developing a range of soft skills such as communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills. You will learn how to cook a wide range of dishes and home baking. The course also covers food safety and hygiene skills, budgeting skills and healthier options.

Customer Service

This supportive and practical course is designed for adult learners who want to explore customer service and develop skills for employment.  Through hands-on activities, real-life scenarios and teamwork, you’ll build communication skills, confidence, and an understanding of what employers look for.Hospitality and Catering

This friendly and supportive course introduces adult learners to the exciting world of catering and hospitality. The course focuses on building confidence, teamwork, and practical skills in a safe and encouraging environment. You’ll learn basic food preparation, kitchen safety, customer care, and working as part of a team, using hands-on activities and real-life scenarios. Sessions are structured, relaxed, and taught at a pace that suits you. This is for those wanting to get into work or volunteering.

Land Based Skills

This supportive and hands-on course gives adult learners the chance to explore land-based skills such as gardening, planting, caring for the environment, and working safely outdoors. You’ll take part in structured, enjoyable activities that build independence, teamwork, and routine, while learning skills that can support future opportunities in volunteering or employment. Learning is practical, guided, and adapted to suit different abilities and learning styles.

Performing Arts

You will be exploring different types of performance including movement, mime, character, and storytelling as well as all of the roles behind the scenes. You will explore different types of drama, including drama traditions from around the world and will go back in time to learn about the history of theatre. You will work together to create performances and show them to a live audience.
