Castleside Ward – Inpatient Dementia Service at Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW)

Castleside is Inpatient Dementia Service with 10 beds based in the grounds of the Campus for Ageing and Vitality.

It is for older people over 65 who are having a set back or are in crisis with their mental health with conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, amnesia, delirium and dementia and need a hospital admission. A hospital admission gives people who are unwell a safe place where they can receive support, care and treatment so they can recover as quickly as possible.

A request to be admitted to Castleside can only be made through the Crisis and home based treatment team who will consider other options before admitting a person to hospital.

The inpatient staff team include: specialist doctors, nurses and other health care workers.
