North of Tyne Street Triage – Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW)

North of Tyne Triage team (CNTW NHS Foundation Trust) work across Newcastle, Northumberland and North Tyneside and support people detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act who are over the age of 14.

Section 136 of the Mental Health Act 1983 gives a police officer power to remove someone found in a public place who, in the officer’s opinion:

• has a mental health condition
• is in need of care or control
• requires a place of safety for their own interests or for the protection of others.

Northumbria Police manage the referrals.
