About us

Information NOW is an initiative of Newcastle's Quality of Life Partnership. The Partnership was established in 2005 to enable older people and agencies to work together to improve the quality of life of older people in Newcastle.

Read recent reports on our work here:

Joining the Dots – a programme which aims to improve access to services for frailer and more vulnerable older people. The following reports bring together the main findings from this work and related projects:

At the centre of the Partnership are the voices and experiences of older people. The Elders Council of Newcastle is the city's older people's forum and is leading on supporting older people across the city to raise issues, tell their stories and put forward ideas.

The Quality of Life Partnership and Newcastle City Council published Everyone's Tomorrow - The Strategy for Older People and an Ageing Population in Newcastle upon Tyne in 2007, with the support of the Elders Council, Age UK Newcastle and Newcastle Primary Care Trust amongst others. There is an Executive Summary and an Outcomes Framework which summarise the key themes.

Information and advice

‘Information, information, information’ is what older people have told us they need to enable them to stay involved, live healthy lives and access the services they require. We have responded by developing this website, which presents information from the perspective of an older person, family member or carer.

We appreciate that not every older person can easily access the Internet, so we are also working closely with services to make sure that staff who are in contact with older people can support them to find the information they need.

This includes introducing First Contact Newcastle, a multi-agency referral scheme that gives frontline staff a tool to effectively refer people into preventative services. By using a simple checklist, staff can promote organisations that provide information, advice and practical services; and can make direct referrals into those organisations. For more information about the scheme contact Claire Horton, who is currently working in the Putting People First Team at Newcastle City Council, by email at claire.horton@newcastle.gov.uk, or on telephone number
0191 211 5279.
