Children and Young People’s service (CYPS) – Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW)

The Children and young people’s service (CYPS) provides a single service to all children and young people aged 0 to 18 years living in Newcastle and Gateshead. This includes children and young people who may be living in difficult and challenging circumstances.

The service is for any child or young person with a mental health issue, a learning disability, experiencing psychosis (hearing and seeing things that are not there) or an eating disorder.

The service provides:

• assessment, diagnosis and treatment for a range of mental health issues
• increased home based support for those children and young people who are at risk of a hospital admission due to their mental health getting worse
• an eating disorder service to support children and young people who are at risk of a hospital admission
• support for young people to move to a new team who will be responsible for looking after them once they turn 18
• training, support and advice to staff working in services for children.

Referrals: any professional working with a child or young person, their family, or the child themselves can contact the team to be seen. This contact can be by letter, fax or phone

The CYPS staff team include: specialist doctors, nurses and other health care workers.
