Discovery Museum
Discovery Museum explores life in Newcastle and Tyneside from our renowned maritime and military history to world-changing science and technology. The museum has lots to offer audiences of all ages with many interactive displays which includes ‘Play Tyne’ a water play area for children under 7 to experience the workings of the River Tyne*, including shipbuilding, loading cranes etc. It’s a great place to learn and have fun. Donations welcome, admission free.
It’s one of 9 museums managed by North East Museums. It’s a designated Safe Place for people with learning disabilities.
This is a designated Safe Reporting Centre where people can report hate crime or hate incidents without having to contact the Police directly.

Discovery Museum is a Wellbeing Hub. They’re a warm welcoming place to spend time in Newcastle. They offer a range of support such as hot drinks, free Wi-Fi, place to charge your devices, information, advice and more. Read more about Wellbeing Hubs
Museums, culture and heritage can help to improve your health and wellbeing. They have free museum object boxes that you can borrow. You can use these can be used as part of a guided session. Read more about their free health and social care resources.
The museum has a Changing Place accessible toilet. These toilets have equipment is to help you to get on and off the toilet, or to change your continence pad. Such as a hoist, a height-adjustable changing bench and a shower. These toilets have more space so your carer or carers can help you if needed. There is a changing area with screens or curtains to give you some privacy. Visit the Changing Places website to see the opening times and how access them. You can only access the toilets when the buildings are open. You may need a Radar Key to open the toilet.
