Skills for People
Skills for People support people with learning disabilities and autism and their carers. They give information, advice and support services, to disabled children and their families. This includes help with:
- Education Health and Care Plans
- support with applying for grants and benefits
- accessing services
They run:
- Pass it on Parents: a parents group that supports families with children who have additional needs living in Newcastle.
- Parent and Carer coffee mornings where you can find out more about support available and chat with other people with shared experiences
- Drop in sessions
- Family meet ups
The office is a designated Safe Place for people with learning disabilities.
Skills for People is commissioned by Newcastle City Council for sexual health training for people with learning disabilities.
They work to make sure disabled people can be in control of their own lives, strong confident and included in the communities of their choice. Northeast Special Needs Network is now part of Skills for People.
Skills for people has a Changing Place accessible toilet. These toilets have equipment is to help you to get on and off the toilet, or to change your continence pad. Such as a hoist, a height-adjustable changing bench and a shower. These toilets have more space so your carer or carers can help you if needed. There is a changing area with screens or curtains to give you some privacy. Visit the Changing Places website to see the opening times and how access them. You can only access the toilets when the buildings are open. You may need a Radar Key to open the toilet.
