This year is even more special as it’s the 50th year of the Pride movement in the UK. The Northern Pride festival will be returning to the Town Moor from 22 to 24 July, with lots of events planned in the lead up. This is a very proud and inclusive city, and it’s fitting that Northern Pride attracts over 40,000 people each year.

When cancer is diagnosed early, treatment is more likely to be successful, however, since the beginning of the pandemic there has been a significant drop in urgent referrals. We want everyone to contact their GP practice with their concerns, often to be reassured that it probably isn’t cancer. But it is best to speak to a health professional than guess or live with anxiety. Finding out sooner is always better.
If you are over 50 years, have concerns or are due screening then get in touch with your GP. The NHS particularly wants to reach Black and South Asian audiences who are already at risk of health inequalities.
Refugee week is a UK wide festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and the resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. This week is a celebration of community, mutual care, and the human ability to start again.
This Refugee Week, you are invited to explore the theme of ‘Healing’ through creativity and conversations. Healing means recovering from a painful experience or situation, so that we can continue to live. No-one understands this better than those who have lost their homes and had to build new lives from scratch. Those going through the asylum system also know that healing is an ongoing process, made harder by poverty, housing difficulties and the threat of being detained or deported.
